教学沙龙（总第3期）：Adapting Textbooks

    由教师教学发展中心举办的“教学沙龙”是由我校青年教师发起和主讲的教学交流活动。教学沙龙选题有两种形式，一种是以青年教师教学能力发展项目为依托的教学改革经验介绍及交流；另一种是以教学工作中遇到的教学问题、解决策略为主题的研讨交流。每期沙龙有1—2位主讲人，参与沙龙的教师共同就选题进行讨论交流，促进教学能力的提升。

    一、沙龙主题：Adapting Textbooks

    In this workshop we will look at the advantages and disadvantages of using textbooks, especially in relation to teaching reading. We will go into detail about how to make the textbook tasks relevant to the students’ interests and needs in order to make a productive and interesting task where students learn skills like skimming and gist reading,  that go beyond basic comprehension.

    二、主讲人：John Cowley

    I graduated from the University of St. Andrews with a Masters degree in Classics, the study of ancient literature and culture through Latin and Ancient Greek. During my studies I also received a CELTA.   

    After graduating, I started my teaching career in the UK and Greece and then moved on to Korea.Looking for something new and different I decided to come to China to find employment at Jilin University.
